A letter from our partner Children of the Nations regarding much needed help in Haiti:
Thanks to your generous support and immediate response, over $25,000 has been donated toward our Haiti Earthquake Response Effort. These initial funds will go to address the immediate needs, namely medical care and food/water. More funds are desperately needed, so please
DONATE TODAY.
As we continue in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the overwhelming need remains.
There are THREE ways you can help:
GIVE – Your financial support is greatly needed. To date, over $25,000 has come in toward our Haiti Earthquake Response Effort. These first donations will go toward meeting the immediate needs of the earthquake victims: providing medical personnel, medical care/supplies, food, and water. Our response effort will be determined as funding allows. Mid-term and long-term needs, which will also require the financial support of our partners, are currently being identified—more details forthcoming.
GO – Medical supplies and personnel (doctors, surgeons, nurses, and trauma/grief counselors) have been identified as the two GREATEST needs. COTN–USA is currently mobilizing medical teams to depart for the Dominican Republic to tend to the patients filling the hospitals near the border and in the Barahona region and also to head into Haiti as needed. If you are a medical professional and would like more information, please contact Jeff Lander in our Venture Dept. at 360-698-7227.
GATHER – We are currently arranging transportation for one to two 40-ft. shipping containers of food and supplies from our USA warehouse. As we deplete our inventories both in the USA and the Dominican Republic, these goods will need to be replenished so that we are able to continue to minister to the children in our care. Donations of medical supplies and SmilePacks™ (particularly Hygiene packs and “Let’s Eat” packs) are requested. Visit our donate resources page for up-to-date needs. Contact our Resources Director, Dave Schertzer, at 360-698-7227 for more information.

Thank you again, for you continued financial support and prayers.

Social justice, meet business. The two of you have lived in separate houses for a long time, but the benefits of your pairing are now undeniable and long overdue.
Social entrepreneurs are in the fast lane to becoming the the future of business initiatives. What exactly is a social entrepreneur you ask? The best way to describe it is a mix between a non-profit and a consumer driven business. Social entrepreneurs provide a product or service while also supporting a social initiative. If you've ever heard of TOMS shoes then you know exactly what a social entrepreneur is. TOMS is becoming famous for their "one for one" business model.
"For every pair of shoes we sell, we give a pair away to a child in need."
The TOMS model has made big sparks in the business world. Leaders are taking notice that consumers are sending a message with their purchases. In a recent seminar with founder of TOMS shoes, Blake Mycoskie, he revealed that the company was on track to sell 300,000 shoes in 2009. That's great for their company but it's even better for 300,000 children that are in need of shoes!
Why is it working? One of the main benefits to social companies is that you provide a product people enjoy in order to fulfill the mission you desire to complete. Therefore, consumers and society benefit simultaneously. Non-profit, in contrast, are in danger of suffering during economic downturns because many rely on raw giving. It is great in theory to hope that people do not need a reason to donate money other than the good feeling they get, but human nature often does not share the same opinion.
We are hoping to find ways to bridge the gap between pure non-profits and social economics. Think about this: Could you imagine what would happen if every business started a social project or teamed up with a non-profit to provide a one for one type service? This is on its way to happening, and the only way to speed up the process is to make sure we keep sending a message to executives: that we want our purchases to make a difference.

Resolution (def) -
Optics. the act, process, or capability of distinguishing between two separate but adjacent objects or sources of light or between two nearly equal wavelengths.
Ok, so I picked definition number 7 on dictionary.com. One reason was to be shamelessly over artistic, but the other is because dictionary.com is often a great place to find new meaning in ordinary words that we've defined our entire lives. I usually hate making new year's resolutions, but that's because it's about setting goals that I lose site of two weeks into the year. It wasn't until recently that I realized my success or failure came down to my approach.
Yesterday I read an article on how to read more this year. The solution was pretty simple: Whenever you feel like reading more, just do it...right then and there. Don't make plans to read 4 times over the next week, just do it right now. Then, tomorrow do it again.
We make it much harder on ourselves to make a difference in our lives and in this world than we need to. How many of you have made a resolution in the past to exercise a certain number of days during the week and then felt defeated when you exercise half of those days? I think it's time we live in the moment a little bit. When you get the urge to make yourself better, don't always try to plan out your entire year, or even your entire week. Just do it. Setting goals is important, and living by the hour or minute might be a great place to start. Every minute, every second is a new one. Acting impulsively for the good of yourself or the good of humanity might just make this world a better place to live in.
Loveless in 20092009 was an incredible year for LVLS. Looking back at where we started, in a restaurant next to 7-11 eating chicken tenders, to where we are now makes me unable to generate words sometimes. We have been so blessed and believe now more than ever in the vision we set forth on. Thank you to everyone who has supported us, partnered with us, and who wears our clothing. We would not be here without you.
Our buy one give one campaign in December was a great success! We had one of our best months of the year online and can't wait to team up with Home Sweet Homeless to give out shirts and blankets to the homeless community.
Give the gift of love, sponsored by Krochet Kids is over, but you can still support the cause by purchasing their shirt on our webstore.
Thank you again for all of your love. We look forward to an amazing 2010!

LOVELESS GLOBAL IN ACTION!!!!
Here’s one way Loveless is being taken around the world. The World Race with Mike Schuerman
http://mikeschuerman.theworldrace.org/Follow Mike on his journey.
I've always been a firm believer in the fact that we can all do something. It doesn't mean that you have to give up all of your worldly possessions and travel around the world helping others. But anyone can be a small part in helping those that do, no matter where you are in your life. Loveless has the unique opportunity over the next year to be a part of Mike Schuerman's mission to go into the far reaches of the Earth and serve. LVLS will be providing shirts for Mike as he answers a specific calling to:
-HELP AIDS orphans in Africa know they are loved
-PROVIDE SHELTER for those who have no home in Romania
-GIVE HOPE to the women in Thailand who are stuck in prostitution
The Trip is Called: The World Race
